TYO Text Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the TYO Text Android application, published by TYONLINE TECHNOLOGY PTY. LTD. ("we", "us" or "our"), under the package name au.com.tyo.mmsviewer.

TYO Text is designed to work as the user's chosen default SMS application. It can receive, display, search, compose and send SMS messages, handle MMS delivery events, identify possible spam or scam signals, find appointment details, and help users organise conversations. The app also retains its carrier MMS recovery function for supported Telstra and Lycamobile notifications.

The short version

Message data is processed and stored locally on the user's Android device.
TYO Lab does not upload message content to its servers.
TYO Lab does not sell message data or use it for advertising.
TYO Text does not use message content to train artificial-intelligence models.
The current release does not send messages to Prism or another AI service.
Data leaves the app only when the user performs an action that requires it, such as sending a message, contacting a carrier service, exporting a conversation, or opening a reviewed appointment in another app.

Information processed by TYO Text

Depending on the features the user chooses, TYO Text may process:

SMS and MMS content and related metadata, including sender or recipient, telephone number, time, message direction and conversation association;
messages imported by the user from a supported backup file;
locally derived spam and scam indicators, appointment candidates and group suggestions;
carrier notification details, including temporary credentials contained in a Telstra or Lycamobile MMS notification, when the user chooses carrier recovery;
content selected by the user for export or sharing; and
basic app state needed to provide the local message archive and dashboard.

This information may be personal and sensitive. TYO Text processes it only to provide features requested by the user.

SMS and MMS permissions

TYO Text may request the following Android permissions:

Read SMS (READ_SMS) — to display and organise messages already stored by the Android SMS provider.
Receive SMS (RECEIVE_SMS) — to receive incoming SMS while TYO Text is the default SMS app.
Receive MMS and WAP push (RECEIVE_MMS, RECEIVE_WAP_PUSH) — to handle MMS delivery events while TYO Text is the default SMS app.
Send SMS (SEND_SMS) — to send a message the user composes or confirms.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — to notify the user about relevant incoming-message activity on supported Android versions.
Internet access (INTERNET) — for the optional carrier MMS recovery flow and links the user chooses to open.

On supported Android versions, TYO Text asks the user to select it as the default SMS handler before requesting restricted SMS permissions. If TYO Text is not the default SMS handler, it does not use restricted SMS access to read or send device messages.

TYO Text does not request Call Log, Contacts, Calendar, location, accessibility-service or broad shared-storage permissions in this release.

On-device analysis

Spam and scam review, appointment extraction and group suggestions run locally on the device. These features analyse message text using local rules and produce local results. Spam or scam indicators are informational and cannot guarantee that a message is safe or unsafe. TYO Text does not automatically block a sender or message in this release.

When the user selects Add to calendar, TYO Text opens a pre-filled event in the user's chosen calendar application. The user reviews and decides whether to save it. TYO Text does not read the user's calendar and cannot confirm whether the event was saved.

Carrier MMS recovery

When the user explicitly starts carrier MMS recovery, TYO Text may send the temporary credentials contained in the carrier's notification directly to the carrier service identified by the notification. TYO Lab does not receive those credentials or recovered carrier content. The carrier's availability, security, privacy practices and retention periods are controlled by that carrier.

Sharing and disclosure

TYO Lab does not sell SMS, MMS or derived message data. TYO Lab does not share that data with advertisers, data brokers or AI model providers.

Information may leave TYO Text in these user-directed circumstances:

Android and the user's mobile carrier process messages the user sends or receives;
the selected carrier service receives carrier-recovery requests;
an application chosen by the user receives content the user exports or shares; or
the user's chosen calendar application receives appointment details the user asks TYO Text to prepare.

Those third parties process information under their own terms and privacy policies. TYO Lab is not the recipient of data in these flows.

Storage, retention and deletion

TYO Text stores its message archive, imported data and derived results in the app's private storage on the device. TYO Lab does not operate a server-side TYO Text message archive.

Users can remove local app data using Android's application settings or by uninstalling TYO Text. Files previously exported to another location and data held by Android, a carrier or another application must be deleted through that location or service. Removing TYO Text does not delete the device's system SMS database or copies previously shared by the user.

Security

TYO Text uses Android app-private storage and limits sensitive operations to the permissions and default-handler role granted by the user. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and users should protect access to their device and any unencrypted conversation exports.

Children's privacy

TYO Text is a general-purpose messaging utility and is not designed to collect personal information from children on behalf of TYO Lab. TYO Lab does not operate accounts, advertising profiles or a server-side message collection for TYO Text.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when TYO Text's functionality or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version. If a future release adds cloud synchronization, Prism or another AI service, we will update this policy and request any consent required before that feature processes message data.
